I started this test expecting the differences to be cosmetic. Every listing in this category promises boomerang flight, and on paper the five orbs here are near-identical: caged plastic shells, RGB lighting, USB charging, roughly ten minutes in the air. Two weeks in a backyard sorted them out very quickly.
The test that mattered was embarrassingly simple. Ten gentle underhand throws, open space, count the ones that came back within arm's reach. My eight-year-old ran it for each orb on separate evenings. The Orbi was the only one she caught more often than she chased, and she was landing clean returns inside four minutes of picking it up for the first time.
Weight is the other reason. At around 26 g it is light enough that indoor misses are a non-event, which turned out to be the thing that kept it in use — the orbs that only work outdoors got flown on nice evenings and forgotten on wet ones. Add the roughly 25-minute recharge and you have a toy that fits into an ordinary weekday rather than requiring one to be planned around it.
It is not perfect and I will not pretend otherwise. You can only buy it through the official offer page, so there is no walking into a shop for one this afternoon, and about ten minutes of flight per charge means a second unit is genuinely useful rather than an upsell. Those are the honest trade-offs for the only orb here that behaved like a boomerang instead of a hovering ball.
